Decommissioning Public Art: A Policy for East Kent Local Authorities

Background

This policy has arisen from an identified requirement by the East Kent Local Arts Partnership group.It has been researched as part of a larger project studying the practice of decommissioning public art on a national scale. It was commissioned by the East Kent Local Authority Arts Partnership (comprising Ashford, Canterbury,Shepway and Thanet) andwritten by Hazel Colquhoun, Public Art Consultant.

The policy addresses both the decommissioning of existing public art and planning for the decommissioning of new works.

The aims of this policy are to ensure that in the East Kent districts high quality public art commissions are experienced and maintained and any required decommissioning of public art is a fair, reasonable and transparent experience for all participants
