Artist Commission – Bournville College Zen Garden

Deadline: September 9, 2011

This is a significant opportunity to bring visual arts into the public realm in Longbridge, benefiting both the local community and the substantial numbers of students who will visit this area. The artwork will give individuals and the local community the opportunity to reflect on how art can represent the link between the past, present and future. It is envisaged that this will be a piece of work that promotes an emotional response and allows individuals the opportunity to consider how the sculpture reflects their own experiences of life and the area. We want to bring art to those who don’t feel comfortable in a dedicated gallery or museum space and use it to broaden participation and develop new audiences for contemporary art outside a gallery context.

The College wants to encourage and stimulate interest from students in expanding their curriculum, knowledge and experience by being able to communicate and informally engage with an artist during the development process. This will also expose them to the professional working practices of the commissioned artist.
