Deadline: January 6, 2014, 5:00 pm

Artist Opportunity – Two Art Commissions.
Glanrhyd Low Secure Mental Health Unit, Bridgend, Wales.

Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board and Interserve Ltd has appointed EMP Projects to work with them to develop and manage the integration of permanent artworks for the new development of Glanrhyd Low Secure Mental Health Unit. We are looking to shortlist three artists for commission 1 and 2. Each artist will be offered £500.00 to produce concept proposals following a site visit. Commissions 1 and 2 will be awarded to the preferred concept proposals.

Commission 1.    Glanrhyd Internal Artworks
The commission is comprised of 2 elements as follows:
Scheme 1.
The commissioned artist will be required to design and implement both the hardware and software for the permanent display of a series of audio/visual screens and or interactive digital sensing and display technology to be integrated within the Glanrhyd Low Secure Mental Health building.
Scheme 2. We would like the artist to also develop contents for the permanent interactive audio/ visual artwork(s). There are no preconceived ideas for the contents; however, as it is an interactive artwork(s) and a permanent feature within the development the work should be place-‐responsive and created through engagement with the client team. The work will be the primary contents and a benchmark for continuous use by future artist, staff and patients.

The overall budget for this project is £45,000.00 (ex vat)

Commission 2.    Glanrhyd External Artworks
This commission is for a professional artist to design and develop a series of artworks to be located within the Glanrthyd Courtyard and if possible, extending to the rest of the grounds. The artist will be required to as develop and implement a series of either permanent sculptures; interactive artworks, lighting and or outdoor installations for contemplation, dialogue and free time interaction spaces for patients and staff. Any proposed artworks artwork will be a direct result of a comprehensive engagement process with staff and the client design team.
