BSF Public Art – Wolverhampton: Commission for a Visual or Digital Artist for Project Dandelion

Deadline: October 31, 2011

BSF Public Art – Wolverhampton: Commission for a Visual or Digital Artist for Project Dandelion

'A Digital Interactive Welcome'

Project Dandelion is a public art project, introduced in 2011 that enables new art commissions and projects to take place across the BSF (Building Schools for the Future) programme in Wolverhampton.

Project Dandelion are currently seeking submissions from artists based in the UK for a commission called ‘Interactive Welcome’.

Fee: £18,000 (including all materials, expenses and installation)

Installation Date: August 2012

The ‘Interactive Welcome’ is a unique opportunity for the main entrance space of a new school that is Highfields and Penn Fields School, Wolverhampton.

Essential to the commission is student engagement and opportunities for students and staff to participate in artist-led activities during the ‘making’ process. Also, as the name suggests the finished work has to be welcoming, warm, interactive and digital. The students of Penn Fields School love to make short films. Ideally, Project Dandelion would like the commission to enable uploading and/or incorporating their films and provide them with an opportunity to make new films for this special purpose.

The new school is a site-specific building with contemporary architecture. Penn Fields Special School in Wolverhampton is for children with a range of learning needs, with a population of 160 pupils aged between 4 and 16 years old.

Professional artists, based in the UK, should send a proposal on a CD Rom (please no email submissions) in order to be considered:

  • Proposal with indicative budget breakdown and description of artist-led workshops/student engagement activities
  • Artists Statement no more than 500 words and listing relevant experience
  • CV and two referees
  • Images of your work drawn from a maximum of 5 projects/commissions
  • Relevant supporting material

Deadline: 31st October 2011

Please send to Nicola Shipley, 302 The Custard Factory, Gibb Street, Digbeth, Birmingham B9 4AA, [email protected]

NB: Please enclose a SAE for return of material.
