Back to the Future: Public Art Commission

Deadline: May 28, 2015, 9:00 am

Arts for All seeks expressions of interest from experienced and suitably qualified artists or design teams in developing a new public artwork. The total budget available for the artwork is up to £40,000 (inclusive of VAT). Appointment of the successful artist/design team is contingent upon sufficient funds being secured for the project.

The project seeks to develop a legacy artwork reflecting past and present aspects of life in north Belfast and hopes for what a future north Belfast society might look like.

The Building Peace through the Arts – Re-Imaging Communities Programme themes are community cohesion, regeneration through the arts, positive relations at the local level, peace and reconciliation, connecting communities.

This project aims to build community cohesion between the Tiger’s Bay and New Lodge areas. These are areas which have many issues arising from the conflict and the legacy of the conflict. Sectarian tension is high and there have been a number of race attacks in the Tiger’s Bay area over the last year.

Ideas coming out of the consultation period are for an art work which reflects north Belfast’s rich history while looking forward to a culturally diverse future north Belfast which is welcome to people from all backgrounds.

The deadline for receipt of applications is noon on 28th May 2015. The selection panel will consider submissions received by this deadline and select up to three artists to go forward to Stage 2 of this process.
