Commissions at Cockington Court, Torquay

Deadline: November 23, 2009, 5:00 pm

Torbay Council, with Gingko Projects, wish to commission artist/designers/makers to research, design and deliver two new commissions located in the water meadows of Cockington Court, Torquay. The two commissions are for a new crossing point and for a gateway feature. The commissions are part of an overall project which aims promote more sustainable access to this visitor attraction and enhance the site’s legibility.

The redevelopment of Cockington Court is a key part of Torbay’s Sea Change project funded by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and the South West Regional Development Agency, a wider regeneration project which aims to promote the new English Riviera Geopark. At Cockington the aim is to develop a creative hub and cultural destination within the existing heritage and outstanding landscape of the estate, becoming a magnet for creatives and visitors to the Bay. In time the revitalised manor house will become an inspirational new art space of national significance with new residency workshops, craft studios and teaching facilities.

Work on the design of the both commissions will commence in December 2009 with completion of the project by June 2010. For the crossing point project the total budget is £25,000. For the gateway project the total budget is £35,000.

Applications consisting of up to 10 examples of previous work as digital files (for PC), an expression of interest in the commission and a CV must be received no later than 5-30pm on the 23rd November 2009.
