East Belfast Public Art Commission

Deadline: February 27, 2015, 5:00 pm

East Belfast Historical and Cultural Society seeks expressions of interest from experienced and suitably qualified artists or design teams in developing a new public artwork. The total budget available for the artwork is up to £40,000 (inclusive of VAT).

The project seeks to develop a legacy artwork reflecting the impact that local women had on shaping the future of today and the contribution they made to the whole community of Belfast and Northern Ireland in building a society for all to live in peace and harmony.

The Building Peace through the Arts – Re-Imaging Communities Programme themes are community cohesion, regeneration through the arts, positive relations at the local level, peace and reconciliation, connecting communities.

The artwork will be sited in East Belfast which over the past has experienced major areas of community conflict and redevelopment. The site chosen for the new artwork will be in a major thoroughfare which has a high volume of both pedestrian and vehicles

The artwork must reflect the contribution of women past and present in endeavouring to build a future not only for themselves but also their families and the whole of the communities of Belfast.
