Gwynedd Artist Opportunity

Deadline: November 23, 2012

Gwynedd Artist Opportunity

Design Fee: £4,000 including participatory workshops

This is a collaborative project between Gwynedd County Council and Addo.

Applications are invited from artists or makers with a collaborative/participative approach to design and implement artwork interventions at Ysgol Bro Dysynni, Gwynedd. The artist will be working with pupils and staff from three primary schools who will move into their new school at the beginning of September 2013.

The new school is sited at Llanegryn, in the Dysynni Valley, one of the loveliest in the southern half of the Snowdonia National Park. The new building reflects the environmental sensitivity of the locale and will incorporate sustainable credentials, including:

  • banks of solar panels generating electricity for the building
  • rainwater will be collected from the roof to be used for flushing toilets
  • the school will be heated by a biomass boiler which will fully comply with the Clean Air Act standards
  • green roof.

The artworks produced must be of high design quality, reflect the ethos of the school, this landscapes particular distinctiveness and promote awareness of ‘out of classroom’ learning. The artworks will be integral to the building and it’s setting, within large landscaped grounds, and not stand alone sculptural objects. They envisage therefore that they will be functional artworks with specific purposes.

Deadline for applications: 23rd November 2012
Interviews scheduled for: 5th December 2012
