Junction 2012 - call for artists

Deadline: April 14, 2012

Junction 2012 - call for artists

Call for expressions of interest for Junction 2012, an urban arts festival taking place in Wolverhampton, 3-5 August. Artists living or working in the Midlands and artists nationally and internationally with links to the Midlands are invited to apply.

Junction is organised by Wolverhampton Contemporary Art Forum. Proposals are invited from artists working across all media [visual art, performance/live art, sound, film, digital media, text based work, social media and socially engaged practice] to respond to the Chapel Ash area of Wolverhampton, an edge of city region with an eclectic history.

Chapel Ash is on the verge of transformation with a new supermarket development underway in 2012. It is a major thoroughfare to the city centre, with a variety of businesses, restaurants and public houses, and a popular stopping off point for football fans to have a pint on match days.

Proposals should be for site responsive or site contextual work. Artist’s work will appear in local businesses, artist studios and street locations so proposals should respond to specific locations for work. Artists are encouraged to visit the area before submitting proposals.

Work may respond to the following themes but this list is not exhaustive:

  • Physical environment of Chapel Ash, architecture, street furniture etc
  • Post and Pre industrial history of the area
  • Prominent buildings in the area such as Bank’s Brewery, St Mark’s Church, Attwood building etc
  • Transformation of the region.

Artists may receive some assistance towards expenses but this will depend on the outcome of Junction festival funding applications.

Expenses will be negotiated upon acceptance.

Please note that all selected artists will be expected to be available for a minimum of half a day to speak to audiences about their work.

Expressions of interest should include the following:

  • 300 word max proposal outlining your idea including type of space, installation needs, technical assistance, maintenance and any possible health and safety issues
  • Up to 4 images of recent work (inc links to websites etc)
  • Sound or film files may be sent as separate attachments, although links to soundcloud, vimeo, you tube or other appropriate web sites is preferred
  • An up to date CV (max 2 pages)
  • A 50 word statement that summarises your practice. If selected this will be used for marketing purposes.
  • Total submission should not exceed 2MB

Please send your application by e-mail to [email protected]
Deadline: 14/04/2012
Successful applications to be notified by 28/04/2012
