New South Glasgow Hospitals - Graphics Project Artist Residencies

Children and young people are going to be invited to help shape the environment of the New South Glasgow Hospitals by working with artists and designers to develop graphics for the new Children’s Hospital.

Utilising a residency format, a team of four artists and designers, led by Alison Unsworth, will work with children and young people, supported by Age Appropriate Care and Play Staff, at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital to develop graphics which will be applied to a range of identified spaces in the new Children’s Hospital that forms part of the New South Glasgow Hospitals project.

The Graphics Project consists of two parts: the artist residency programme at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital and the production of wall graphics for the new Children’s Hospital which forms part of the New South Glasgow Hospitals project. The team will deliver all parts of this process.

Applications are now invited from artists and designers for the following three residencies:

  1. Children’s residency. The selected artist or designer will work with children who are inpatients at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital, taking a flexible and peripatetic approach. Fee: £9000. Time: 36 days to include residency planning, delivery and development of designs for wall graphics (minimum of 25 days contact time at Yorkhill)
  2. Young people’s residency. The selected artist or designer will work with young people who are inpatients at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital, taking a flexible and peripatetic approach. Fee: £9000. Time: 36 days to include residency planning, delivery and development of designs for wall graphics (minimum of 25 days contact time at Yorkhill).
  3. Residency with the Department of Child & Family Psychiatry (DCFP). The selected artist or designer will work with staff and/or children and young people within this department at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in order to develop designs for wall graphics which will be located within the working spaces of DCFP at the new hospital, for example, in the large group room and team room. The artist undertaking this residency will work closely with staff to ensure that appropriate graphics are developed for these areas. Fee: £4750. Time: 19 days to include residency planning, delivery and development of designs for wall graphics (minimum of 12 days contact time at Yorkhill).
