Public Art Commission - County Kildare

St. Patrick’s co-educational Catholic Primary School, situated in Ballylinan near Athy, Co. Kildare, wish to commission a site specific public artwork under the ‘Per Cent for Art Scheme’, funded by the Department of Education and Science.  The artwork will be site specific with a permanent element to be sited in or around the buildings and environs. The brief asks the artist to:

  • Reflect the previous and future history of the school, it’s students, teachers and community
  • Reflect the strong ethos, vision and identity of the school
  • Respond to the location of the school  
  • Respond to and reflect from meaningful interaction with the pupils

The Commissioning Process:
The selection process will take the form of a two-stage open competition.  It is open to all interested professional artists. Selection will be based on the information supplied, establishing the competence of the artists to carry out this commission. No designs or detailed proposals are required in Stage 1. 

Stage 1
Artists are invited to express their interest in being considered for this project at the first stage of this commission.  Artists may do this by completing the application form and submission of a CV and images of recent work. The closing date for receipt of Stage 1 completed application form together with supporting documentation and material is 12 noon, Thursday 31st July, 2014.

Stage 2
From the completed Stage 1 applications; a shortlist of artists will be selected by panel jury.  This panel, whose decision is final, has the right to clarify any issue which may arise in the course of selection.  Stage 2 short listed artists will be paid a concept development fee to work on a detailed proposal for final selection.  A further brief will be given and a site visit is expected at this stage. 

Site Location:
St. Patrick’s National School, Ballylinan, Athy, Co.Kildare

Budget:
The total budget for the project is €17,250.  This includes the costs of materials, artist’s fees, design development, artists’ insurance, supply and installation, signage, travel, and any other costs incurred in the production of the artwork/s. The artist will be responsible for meeting all of these costs out of the total budget allocated.
