Public Art Commission for a Cornwall School, Sir Robert Geffery's Primary School

Deadline: November 22, 2011, 5:00 pm

Public Art Commission for a Cornwall School, Sir Robert Geffery's Primary School

We are Sir Robert Geffery’s Primary School in Landrake near Plymouth. We are going to commission an artist to work with our school community to develop a proposal for an extraordinary piece of sculpture in our grounds. We have some of our budget already in place, but not all of it. We plan to fundraise, but before that we need to recruit our artist and more fully develop our idea.

We want a sculpture which inspires all members of our community and to tell a story with this work along the theme of “it’s the fire which makes us stronger!” Our emblem is two salamanders chained together. We have strong links with the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers and are thinking fire and metal at this stage – but we are interested in new ideas. Initially, we will ask our chosen artist to work with our children to develop proposals for the fundraising process to be achieved before Christmas. We would ideally like the commission to take place during the summer term of 2012.

If you would like to be considered for this commission tell us by email in no more than 500 words why we would work with you and attach three selected images or your work. We will shortlist three artists and invite those shortlisted to come and see us round about the end of November.

Due to the short timescale the deadline for tenders is 5.00pm on Tuesday 22nd November. We will want to meet shortlisted candidates during the week of 28th November or the 5th December.

Please send email tenders to Giles: [email protected] and copy to [email protected].
