Call to artists: a public artwork for Woodberry Down, Hackney, London.

Manor House Development Trust wishes to invite project proposals from an individual artist or artist-led organisation for an innovative public artwork that will celebrate the development of the brand new Redmond Community Centre (RCC) at Woodberry Down. The whole of the Woodberry Down estate is now part of a large, 20-year housing regeneration scheme led by Hackney Council and partners Berkeley Homes, Genesis Housing Association and MHDT.

The individual artist or artist-led organisation will be working or living in East London and will have a good understanding of the local area and its wider issues. The successful applicant will work in collaboration with local stakeholders to develop a project that will create an artwork for the new RCC which has views over the West Reservoir and, in the future, will be adjacent to a park. The vision is that the artwork will act as a focal point for the centre enhancing the space and creating a sense of civic pride amongst the communities that live and work in and around the surrounding area.

Deadline for the submission is 5pm on Monday 17th October 2011 and work is proposed to start in November 2011.
