School Sculptural Seating Commission, Greater Manchester

Deadline: May 8, 2009

Creative Partnerships: Creative Practitioner Brief

Type of Practitioner Wanted:

Sculptor/Designer/3D artists/Craftsperson for Outdoor Sculptural Seating

Skills and Experience Needed:

Design and Making Skills. Experience of working with secondary age pupils. Experience of design work in schools led by school needs and sensitive to the way pupils respond to outdoor spaces.

The practitioner will work with the teacher and students to research the needs of and to canvas opinions from the school community and to develop a design brief for the seating based on the information gathered. They will need to contribute to discussions regarding Health and Safety and they will then work with the students to design sculptural seating for the school grounds. If possible a mechanism whereby individual pupils work is incorporated into the design should be considered and students should be involved as far as is appropriate in the actual making. Ideally the school would like to make more than one seat dependant on costs or would like to have a design which would be replicable should further funds become available.

Fee: £4000 (inclusive of expenses and materials). We would expect this to consist of 10 practitioner days at £200 a day and a £2000 budget for materials but would be happy to consider alternatives.

Period of Contract:

May – July 2009
