Sculpture Commission: Leicestershire, Mantle Arts

Mantle Arts, working in partnership with Lutterworth Town Council, wish to appoint an artist to create a sculptural ‘gateway feature’ for the town.

The aim is to create a modern, iconic art work which will symbolise and celebrate the south Leicestershire town of Lutterworth now and in the future, whilst also acknowledging its heritage and sense of place.

The preferred medium is stone or a combination of stone or other materials and, as well as creating the sculpture, the successful applicant will run workshops with local schools and community groups to ensure community involvement in the project.

A fee of £12,000 inclusive of materials and other expenses will be paid for the creation and installation of the sculpture. Fees and travel costs for the workshops will be paid in addition. The work will take place during the first half of next year and it is planned that the unveiling of the sculpture will coincide with the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in June 2012.

For a copy of the project brief and details of how to apply please email Peter Robinson at [email protected] or telephone 01530 830811.

Closing date for applications: December 5th 2011.
