Three Commissions in Pontmorlais, Merthyr Tydfil

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council wish to appoint an artist or artists to create work for three separate commissions in Merthyr Tydfil. Penderyn Square and the High Street are part of a wide ranging series of improvements to the town centre that have improved the quality of the environment and transport infrastructure. The square is also of historical significance as the site of the Merthyr Rising in 1831.

This commissions are jointly funded by the Arts Council of Wales and Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council.

Background
The public art commissions have been developed as part of a recently completed Public Art Strategy for Merthyr Tydfil. The strategy builds on the wider town centre improvements and seeks to enhance the public realm by creating engaging and relevant public art projects.

Commissions

  1. artwork interventions in Penderyn Square on the theme of the Merthyr Rising and social activism
  2. a poetry paving trail between Theatr Soar and RedHouse
  3. a sculptural feature at the High St entrance to Theatr Soar
