Visual Artists required for public art commission in Merseyside, Halton Borough Council

Halton Borough Council is seeking up to 5 mural artists to work alongside Halton's Arts Development Team to deliver the Going Underground Project.

Castlefields is a housing estate in Runcorn that has undergone considerable regeneration over the last 5 years. We are seeking to commission artists to work along side local groups, residents and other artists to create a permanent mural in 5 subways.

Each subway will be allocated an artistic team comprising:

  • lead visual artist;
  • lead performance artist;
  • shadowing intern artist.

The role of the visual artist will be to liaise with the local groups that will be working with the lead performance artist to create a small performance in the subway. The lead artist will create a mural that reflects the ideas and creative input of participants. As a permanent piece, the artist must provide a protective anti graffiti coating to ensure the piece is durable to expected conditions. The artist is also responsible for their own public liability insurance working with participants and ensuring risk assessments for their work are carried out.

Each subway is a separate commission. You may apply for one, all or as many of the 5 commissions described in Appendix C as you like.

The budget for the visual artist per subway is £3500. This fee is inclusive of materials. For more information and a full project brief and application pack please contact The Arts Development Team on 0151 907 8360 or email [email protected] You may apply for one or more or all 5 subway commissions.

Closes Friday 3 February 2012
