'Square pegs and round holes: a report on the ODA Arts and Culture programme'

Open-City/Art in the Open has just published a report on the Olympic Delivery Authority's (ODA) Arts and Culture programme. The report charts the journey of the programme and outlines recommendations and lessons learned that can be used by regeneration bodies, developers, local authorities, policy makers, commissioners, funders, curators and Olympic host cities, when embarking on art commissioning schemes and regeneration projects in the future.

It also includes recommendations for the future of the Olympic Park in London, a selection of national and international case studies (Art on the Underground, Folkestone Triennial, Beyond in Utrecht, and Sculpture Projects Munster), and full details of all ODA Arts and Culture projects.

The ODA programme includes permanent art commissions that are being integrated into the public realm, as well as residencies and participatory projects in the Host Boroughs, by international and emerging artists including Monica Bonvicini, Neville Gabie, Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie, and Carsten Nicolai.

The programme is contextualised in this report through a number of case studies of recent art commissioning programmes both in the UK and abroad.
