Apply for free tickets for Godiva Awakes – the West Midlands Artist taking the lead project

From the end of April free tickets are available for Coventry's Godiva Awakes. Godiva Awakes is part of 'Artists taking the lead', a series of 12 public art commissions across the UK to celebrate the London 2012 Festival and the Cultural Olympiad, funded by Arts Council England.

On Saturday 28th July, Imagineer Productions Godiva will awake in Coventry for the first time in 1,000 years to a performance involving dancers, actors, aerialists, musicians, pyrotechnicians, carnivalists and 220 young people. A procession will mark the unveiling of this Godiva for the modern age.

The following day she will be the focal point of Coventry's Godiva Carnival and will then journey from Coventry to London to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

There are 2,500 free tickets for the Awakening - and they will be issued in three stages on 28 April, 28 May and 28 June. They will be available online on a first come, first served basis through the Belgrade Theatre website: http://www.belgrade.co.uk/

Rehearsals for the many different elements of Godiva Awakes are already underway, from aerial training to carnival making to drumming to the cycle team as hundreds of people gear up to take part in this project.

Imagineer Productions' Jane Hytch said: 'There is so much excitement building around the project. When the free tickets are made available, it feels like the public can join in with that excitement.

'Things are already taking shape for events in July. The regular carnival making workshops are amazing and it's so wonderful to see the growing skills and confidence of the participants, many of whom might not have otherwise had the opportunity to get involved.'
