International Directory of Sculpture Parks and Gardens adds 15 new sculpture parks

Date uploaded: December 14, 2009

The International Directory of Sculpture Parks and Gardens announces 15 new sculpture parks opened in 2009.

Birkbeck’s International Directory of Sculpture Parks and Gardens website, which launched in June 2009, provides a continuous growing list of sculpture parks from around the world and acts as an essential resource for artists, curators, collectors, architects, urban designers, landscape architects, and garden enthusiasts amongst others.

This month the website publicises a list of 15 new sculpture parks and gardens that opened their gates to the public throughout 2009. This list spans the continents from Europe to North America, recording outdoor sculpture in a variety of different contexts such as urban parks, private and public collections placed outdoors, sited works in forests and even an underwater sculpture garden.

This 2009 list provides a snapshot of the range of types and styles of over 500 sculpture parks and gardens listed in the whole Directory. The foundation of the website, compiled by Dr. Cameron Cartiere of Birkbeck (University of London) with research assistance from Sarah B Davies, expands upon an original archive of Californian sculptor Benbow Bullock.

Visit the Directory website at www.bbk.ac.uk/sculptureparks and find the 2009 sculpture parks list under News and Events on the homepage.
