Martin Creed appointed for Ipswich Waterfront Development

Date uploaded: July 1, 2009

Martin Creed has been appointed by University Campus Suffolk (UCS) to add his vision to an already ambitious and bold development on Ipswich’s Waterfront.

Creed will work on UCS’s innovative art project for the next two years. This is a partnership project led and managed for UCS by Commissions East and supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and Ipswich Borough Council.

Chrissie Harrington, Head of School of Arts and Humanities at UCS, explains the intention of the project:

“Through its construction, design, and texture the final work will create a journey from one place to another, interwoven within the contemporary architecture along and near the Waterfront.

“How people and place relate to the work will be a key part of the creative development process. I’m sure the end result will attract the expert as well as the curious, and will enable communities to share in and experience world-class art that inspires and provokes.”

Workshops and exhibitions are planned for students, artists, residents and the public from within the region and beyond.

As part of the on-going development of Ipswich’s Waterfront, this project will relate specifically to UCS’ new Ipswich Campus, including the new Waterfront Building and University Quay.
