Public Art hits the news: 'We shouldn't sell public art - even to raise funds'
Date uploaded: January 21, 2013
In her article for The Telegraph on 21st January, Sarah Crompton looks at recent new stories in which public art has hit the headlines. With finances tight, local councils are selling off artworks to raise funds. Crompton states that: 'The problem is that to argue for the preservation of public art, and access to art, at a time when local authorities are in dire financial trouble can seem indulgent. Does art matter if you haven’t got a roof over your head?' She declares: 'We shouldn't sell public art - even to raise funds'.
