A Digital Urban Forest for Barking Town Square

Barking shoppers are in for a mystical surprise as Creatmosphere's newest light installation takes root in Barking Town Square as part of this year's Molten Festival 2011

Sprouting up in a dormant retail space, Creatmosphere’s Digital Urban Forest unites the unused retail space with the squares tree lined streets by sculpting a habitat of timber structures from the concrete pillars inside the building. Passing by its glass fronted exterior, the glistening beauty of the natural world radiates onto the square as the area is bathed in a canopy of light and sound.

Renowned for creating light art that puts the space and the public at the heart of the work, Creatmosphere’s Digital Urban Forest combines lighting and projection effects, video mapping and generative digital content to transform the square into an ever-changing imaginary landscape. Taking place for 8 nights from the 26th November – 3rd December the reactive digital forest illuminates the rhythmic qualities of the natural world within the urban landscape by carving an immersive pathway through the seasons. As each day passes the magical organic habitat flourishes and grows casting a new light on the street. Thriving on those that pass by, the forest swarms to create shadows and hiding places within which a glimpse of the unexpected may be found.
