North by Jonathan Wilkinson

Date uploaded: June 23, 2014

NORTH is a new exhibition by Sheffield artist Jonathan Wilkinson and brings together his most comprehensive collection of architectural artworks yet. Jonathan has worked with Artfelt, The Children’s Hospital Charity’s art programme, to bring this exhibition to Sheffield Children’s Hospital; which runs from the 13th June to the 5th October 2014.

Known across Sheffield and beyond for his cityscape prints, Jonathan’s art celebrates the places and things that people love about where they live. A painter and printmaker, his scenes of urban landscapes and landmarks mix architectural precision with bittersweet nostalgia.

"I think my work is well suited to being exhibited in the Children's Hospital, as I explore everyday scenes with a child-like sense of wonder. I hope that my graphic approach and a bold use of colour raises a smile among the hospital's young patients, their families and staff.

Living in Sheffield and hailing from Leeds, I’m interested in bringing attention to the unsung landmarks and landscapes that I grew up around. 'North' sees me travel further outside of Sheffield and explore landscapes where I have family connections, in Leeds and Belfast.”

Jonathan graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2001 with a BA Honours in Painting and Printmaking and started off working as a graphic designer. Inspired by the brutalist surroundings of Sheffield’s urban landscape and the looming destruction of the Tinsley Towers, he launched an online store for his own art, ‘We Live Here’, in 2007. He has produced special commissions for The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, RIBA, The National Theatre, Sheffield Theatres and SAGE Gateshead.

Jonathan’s work is available for sale in support of Artfelt. For more information click here.
