The Salon: a public art project for St Peter's Square, Leicester

Date uploaded: August 7, 2013

Highcross, Leicester (Hammersons) have commissioned EC Arts to initiate an exciting public art project to celebrate their 5th Birthday in September 2013.  Highcross produced a place making brief that aims to create a permanent public art commission to light up St Peter’s Square.

EC Arts are working in partnership with De Montfort University with the intention to develop an arts programme for students to participate within the project.

EC Arts have commissioned artists Hannah Hull and Matt Watkins with support from Paul Wright, Craig Bush, Theodora Pangos and Sarah Nokes.

They have occupied an empty hair salon with the intention to create temporary site specific responses to the shopping centre and the project brief. DMU multidisciplined students and artists will develop ideas that aims to inform a permanent public art commission for St Peter’s Square.

The Salon: A pop-up art space for Leicester.
Opening Event: Monday 19 August, 6pm to 9pm.

This is a collaboration between Highcross, EC Arts and De Montfort University, as part of a new public art project for St Peters Square. The opening event will be a showcase of the artists ideas so far. Please come along if you are in the area!
