Conception Execution Reception

5th June 2014 - 25th July 2014

The Royal British Society of Sculptors (RBS) has announced 'Conception Execution Reception'; an exhibition and series of talks presenting three high profile public art commissions to stimute debate and explore the processes behind their realisation. Running from the 5th June 2014 to the 25th July 2014 at the RBS Galleries, London.

Wednesday to Friday 12.30 – 5.30pm (or by appointment)
RBS Galleries, 108 Old Brompton Road, SW7 3RA

The Royal British Society of Sculptors unites three of the most eminent British sculptors: Richard Deacon RA, William Pye FRBS and Richard Wilson RA, to provide a rare and fascinating glimpse into the Conception Execution and Reception of three major public art commissions through a series of artists’ talks and displays.

Mark Davy, founder of Futurecity, specialising in art in the public realm and strategic cultural placemaking presents Richard Wilson’s Slipstream, 2014 for Heathrow's new Terminal 2: The Queen's Terminal. At 70 metres long, Slipstream is the longest sculpture in Europe. Combining precision engineering with the sense of velocity and movement of a stunt plane, Slipstream will welcome 20 million visitors per year to London via the new Luis Vidal designed Terminal 2. Slipstream’s design uses cutting-edge computer programming technology, usually employed by the aerospace industry, to accurately translate the volume of an aircraft’s movement through space.

William Pye FRBS, renowned for his use of water in large scale public art projects presents Vannpaviljong a highly interactive work in Norway, incorporating rollwaving water over mirror polished stainless steel walls.

Isabel Vasseur, pioneer of the Public Art movement of 1980s presents Richard Deacon’s Nose to Nose, Beginning to End a sculpture placed on a 40ft plinth for the Glasgow Garden Festival in 1988.
