Katie Paterson: Second Moon Artist Talk

February 25, 2015, 12:00 pm

Locus+ will host an artist talk by Katie Paterson to mark the end of a year-long commission entitled 'Second Moon'. The event which will take place on Wednesday the 25th of February 2015 at 12pm at the Fine Art Lecture Theatre of Newcastle University, will be an opportunity to hear the award-winning artist talk about the project and her practice.

Second Moon tracked the cyclical journey of a small fragment of the moon as it circled the Earth, via air freight courier, on a man made commercial orbit. It was visualised through a (free) App that tracked the lunar meteorite in relation to the user’s location, the Moon’s location and the orbits of the other planets in our solar system. Mobile tablet devices and projections displaying 'Second Moon' were positioned in different locations across the world.

Second Moon was commissioned by Locus+ in partnership with Newcastle University and Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and supported by Arts Council England, Adelaide Festival, Newcastle City Council, Mead Gallery and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
