REMNANT - A Performance Art Symposium in Ballina, Co Mayo, Ireland
Saturday, 29th September 2012

Ballina Arts Centre/Mayo County Council’s Jackie Clarke Collection/Civic Offices Gallery

Artists:
Amanda Coogan
Dominic Thorpe
Aideen Barry

With guest speaker Nigel Rolfe

Mayo County Council’s Arts Office - Public Art Programme in collaboration with Ballina Arts Centre, are delighted to announce REMNANT, a day of performance art in Ballina. There will be performances from Amanda Coogan, Dominic Thorpe and Aideen Barry. In addition there will be a talk from guest speaker Nigel Rolfe and a discussion and Q&A session
facilitated by Clíodhna Shaffrey.

This initiative was devised by Public Art Co-ordinator Gaynor Seville in collaboration with Sean Walsh, Director of Ballina Arts Centre in order to address the lack of opportunity in the area to experience performance art, and to pilot what could become an annual event. In discussion with the artists there was also a desire to explore the issues around actual experience of performances and experience of documentation of performance. The guest speaker Nigel Rolfe, and Clíodnha Shaffrey in her facilitation of the discussion, will explore this further. To further illustrate and explore this notion, the gallery space will have an exhibition of the artists’ documentation from previous performances, and documentation of the REMNANT performances will also be added to this for the duration of the exhibition which runs throughout October.
