Conference Day One will present inspirational examples of practical ways in which light has been utilised as a major resource in regeneration schemes internationally. The day will conclude with a practical workshop for delegates, conducted out in the City, exploring solutions to three multiple-use heritage sites in the centre of Chester: the Rows,the city’s unique double tiered covered shopping walkways, the Historic City walls and Town Hall Square.
Conference Day Two the morning will present detailed and revealing showcases of two civic regeneration schemes in which light has been ‘more useful and cheaper than bollards’. In the afternoon, a practical workshop for delegates will respond to an actual regeneration brief in which light has been at the centre of the solution, concluding with comparisons between the workshop solutions and the actual solution.
Speakers will include:
- Hervé Descottes - founder of lighting design consultancy L’Observatoire and 2012 Lumen Award Winner for work on New York’s High Line
- Shona McCarthy - Chief Executive of Derry-Londonderry City of Culture 2013
- Nayan Kulkarni - artist of place and light, co-winner of a Corus Structural Steel Award in 2009
- David Cotterrell - artist of encounters and intersections and Professor of Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University.
Workshop Leaders will include Light Collective with Iguzzini and Nayan Kulkarni.
The Conference will be of interest to professionals in the fields of town planning, urban regeneration, heritage development, interpretation and conservation, transport, lighting, tourism and the visual arts.
