Broward Lighting Project

Summary

Broward Lighting Project is a recently completed art commission in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The commission comprises two related light–artworks by the Seattle-based artist Dan Corson. The commissioning body was the Broward County Public Art and Design Program. They worked to implement the project with the Downtown Development Authority.

The process of commissioning followed an invitational call to artists to submit against an open brief for a celebratory light work to mark 30 years of commissioning public art in Broward County. Corson worked with the commissioners to establish the site for the artwork and deliver the complexities of a light-based interactive artwork. The two works ‘Emerald Laser Lawn’ and ‘Luminous Conjunctions’ are located at Huzienga Plaza, and utilise lighting technology integrated with elements of street furniture and landscaping to animate and enliven an existing public park.
