Uttoxeter Gateway Commission

Deadline: October 5, 2009, 12:00 pm

After consultation with Uttoxeter Implementation group the Wayfinding Project was formed and is a ‘masterplan’ in place to help raise the profile and quality of the town centre for people living, working and visiting the town. The implementation of a programme will serve to reinvigorate and create a new forward looking image for Uttoxeter which, it is hoped, will act as a catalyst for securing future long term investment in the town.

Interested artist(s) and organisations are requested to submit an initial response to the brief and the selection committee will short list and invite to interview. After this process a short list of artists would be expected to develop their idea further and present this at interview for final selection.

The successful artist(s) would be required to consult with the local Uttoxeter residents in focused workshops, which will help the community as a whole have a creative contribution in the design of the finished piece.

The final designs will be presented to the community to give them the final opportunity for any further feedback. The piece will be unattended and therefore it would need to be durable and vandal proof. It is expected that the final piece will be installed by spring/summer 2010.

You will have a proven track record in delivering public and community arts projects and will be an accomplished visual artist.

Allocated Budget for Commission of £95,000.00 for two sites

This would include development work, consultation workshops, production, preparation of site, material costs and installation. There is the option to split the project, which would enable the partnership to commission two artists one for each site. This would result in the budget for each site being split.

Please send current CV, a short proposed budget for the fee, current images of public artwork produced or managed. Please give any details of your participatory arts experience and your initial response to the brief and 2 references.

You could possibly be working with children and therefore you will also require a current CRB certificate or willing to apply for one. (Police check) and Public Liability Insurance.

Interview Date: Monday 14th October 2009
