Architectural Projection by CASA MAGICA, Pittsburgh/PA Festival of Lights

Date uploaded: November 5, 2008

CASA MAGICA have created an architectural projection on Pittsburgh University’s Cathedral of Learning, as part of the Pittsburgh/PA 2008 Festival of Lights. The lead artists are Friedrich Foerster and Sabine Weissinger, and the project is produced by ART LUMIERE, New York.

The Cathedral of Learning was built in the 1920’s in Late Gothic Revival style, and is 163 meters tall. It is the centrepiece of The University of Pittsburgh’s main campus and one of the city’s most renowned and impressive landmarks.

From October 15th until November 16th 2008, the Cathedral will be illuminated each night with text and type faces and will draw on, amongst other themes, Pittsburgh’s history as City of Steel. The artists aim to make the building “appear like a mountain composed of hot type letters”.
