Gloucestershire County Council Best Value Review of the Arts are conducting a Best Value review of its Arts Service, including the public art programme, from July to October this year. We would welcome feedback from any authorities who have completed, or are currently undertaking or planning Best Value arts reviews. How have you challenged, consulted on, compared and continuously improved your service (commissions; education activities etc)? All ideas welcome! Poltimore Exhibition - The project to transform Poltimore House on the eastern fringe of Exeter into a Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World is the subject of an exhibition at the Architecture Centre, Narrow Quay, Bristol from Tuesday 6 June - 14 July. The concepts driving the initiative will be explored as well as a full account of the architectural design by Richard Murphy Architects. The grounds and buildings of this ancient country estate are set to be transformed if the project can win support from the National Lottery. The ideas have been conceived in collaboration with artists and once complete the new institution will be a major new venue for landscape, environmental and public art of all forms. Arts - a Helping Hand for Healing - The Arts in hospitals help the healing process, according to research based at an Exeter hospital, published on 3 June. The research document was launched at a seminar 'Arts in Health', organised by Exeter Health Care Arts at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital on Saturday 3rd June. The Exeter research - undertaken over two years by Peter Scher and Peter Senior of Art for Health at Manchester Metropolitian University - is believed to be the first research evaluation of an arts project set up from scratch in a major hospital.
