PASW Regional Newsletter: Autumn 2001

Public Art Forum, the national association for public art development

Public Art Forum builds the case for the professionalisation of Public Art Practice. In order to support the development of practice the creativity of practitioners must be supported and developed by an infrastructure of information, research, professional guidelines and critical debate. The work that Public Art Forum concerns itself with supports the development of this infrastructure.

PAF has introduced two new elements to its core activities; we will be launching a newsletter - Public Art Forum News, for our members this summer in addition to a series of forum events to be held throughout the country. The aim is to provide more opportunities for ongoing debate and dialogue. We see a need to hold smaller events than our usual seminars and conferences in order that we can focus on key issues that impact on contemporary practice in order to inform policy making at a national level. The first event - 'Public Art and Diversity - establishing an inclusive practice', will be held in Leicester and will be reported in the autumn issue of Public Art Forum News.

Our annual conference will continue to be held in the autumn and this year will be on October 17th at Bloomberg's new Auditorium in Moorgate, London. The conference will explore issues raised by emerging technology and public art practice. For more information contact Public Art Forum at the end of August for booking information.

Public Art Forum also publishes the Public Art Journal. The current issue addresses issues of 'site specificity' including features by Edward Allington, Sarah Cook and Caryn Faure Walker in discussion with Edward Soja, Iwona Blazwick and Emma Dexter. Reviews include James Turrell's Skyspace, Holding Pattern at the A13 Artscape by Tom de Paor, Graham Ellard and Stephen Johnstone and Buslife a collaborative project between the artists Michael Robertson, Sarah Carne, Julie Chow Ping Fu, Bashir Makhoul, Paul Rooney and Mid Pennine Arts and Stagecoach Ribble. Subscriptions are available from Public Art Forum, but members receive the journal as part of their membership package.
