Public Art Forum Update

Public Art Forum is to undergo some significant changes over the next year, the organisational review has presented PAF with the opportunity to reconsider its role as a national agency that exists to promote public art development. These changes will place PAF in a stronger position to influence current practice and policy development. The ability of the organisation to establish a stable base and best use its resources from which to work proactively has been at the heart of the review process.

PAF will develop thinking around public art practice through an active programme that supports research, experimentation and debate. PAF will provide a critical link between artistic practice and policy makers in order to influence the development of the public realm, public infrastructures and services. We will initiate a programme of activity that will establish PAF as the national organisation for the development of new thinking around public art practice. Public Art Forum will:

  • Initiate the development of new thinking around public art practice.
  • Influence policy and practice and the development of the public realm, public infrastructures and services.
  • Inform others of our work.

There are three strands to the programme that will potentially overlap and interconnect, Research and Experimentation, Events and Critical Writing. These strands aim to:

  • Question and contest current practice.
  • Develop new thinking, debate and content.
  • Connect the local with the national and international.
  • Engage with new and existing partners in order to extend influence and maximise resources.
  • Inform others of our programme and where to find guidance on commissioning.

PAF will continue to hold an annual conference, each Spring and will initiate regional forum events. This Autumn PAF will work with MADE (Midlands Architecture Design Environment), PAWM (Public Art West Midlands) and MUF to make an intervention at the Urban Summit in Birmingham.
