Project description
On 1 July 2004, Raploch was granted 'pathfinder' Urban Regeneration Company (URC) status backed by funding from the Scottish Executive. The funding will create better jobs and prospects for local people through the provision of new housing, improved transport and environmental improvements. One element of the programme is the creation of a new Village Square and PROJECT funding will place an artist at the heart of the design team, working with local people on the detail of change. In addition, and using the design of the square as a case study, the artist's role will be to devise a community participation with local people and plan the development of an IT design tool ñ interactive modelling software. This 'Design Game' will allow people of all ages to generate a shared vision for their public realm, and Raploch URC's aim to establish a new digital infrastructure for the area will in time take this process into local people's homes.
