'PLACEmaking 2012' - RUDI's flagship annual publication - will be available in January 2012

Date uploaded: September 12, 2011

PLACEmaking 2012 will be published by RUDI in January 2012

The fourth edition of PLACEmaking will explore ways of delivering successful projects in the context of limited funds, extensive planning reform and the developing localism agenda. It will showcase the smart ideas and innovative approaches needed to deliver quality places, and highlight the economic, social and environmental value of good design.

PLACEmaking is an editorially-led, analytical publication that provides a candid overview of the key issues facing placemakers today. Detailed case studies offer insight into the success of innovative placemaking schemes currently being designed and delivered in the UK and abroad, supported by stakeholder commentary. Issues to be explored include:

  • Smart financial models and opportunities: making good use of limited funds
  • The reformed planning system and the law: effective use of new tools and initiatives
  • Functional areas and the new local/regional administrations: best practice LEPs and Enterprise Zones
  • Evaluation, modelling and scenario-testing tools
  • Supporting integrated spatial and transport planning: maintaining quality, accessibility, mobility and inclusivity; best practice; using and building the evidence base
  • Revisiting and learning from success; effective evaluation, measurement and reporting
  • Retrofitting for low carbon living: smart cities
  • Localism in practice: initiatives and opportunities
  • Community-led projects; housing and land trusts; community energy
  • Engagement tools, processes and skills
  • High street and town centre security and vitality: parking, accessibility, walkability.

Calling creative thinkers with the will to drive place-based innovation across the place-making disciplines.... RUDI is now accepting submissions for possible inclusion in PLACEmaking 2012. If there are schemes out there that show how things should, and should not, be done, then RUDI would love to hear about them.
