Rose Strang is an arts consultant who has worked in both public and private sectors as a curator and project manager. Through her practice, Rose has worked with a wide range of community groups and has negotiated partnerships and collaborations with many arts organisations, art colleges and universities around Britain. From 2006 to 2011, Rose managed public arts projects for some of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts. She now runs Gn-arts, a company offering project management and consultancy on a wide range of projects.
In 2008-2009 Rose worked on the project Rebirth for University Hospital North Staffordshire’s, new Maternity Centre in Stoke-on-Trent. Over the same period, Rose was also working for Edinburgh-based charity Art in Healthcare as the Project Development Manager for a new commission Ninewells new Cancer Treatment Centre in Dundee (NHS Tayside).
In this article for PAR+RS, Rose discusses the differences between the planning structures and outcomes of these two contrasting projects. Concentrating on the challenging Rebirth commission, Rose reveals how the journey toward the work’s resolution at times took unexpected directions.
