FEAST News & Events
Date uploaded: June 11, 2012
FEAST is now focused on developing its second edition taking the theme of digestion. FEAST are working towards a launch in September 2012, followed by a dining event at Spike Island, Bristol.
Alongside exploring the idea of digestion FEAST’s editor Laura Mansfield has been co-curating a series of performative events titled SEVEN SITES. As the series comes to a close the final event fuses an interest in performance and food. Manchester based Theatre Company Quarantine have developed the project No Such Thing, offering to buy members of the public lunch in exchange for a conversation. Occurring in a small Indian café in Manchester’s Northern Quarter (Kabana) the performance will take place during the busy lunchtime rush. If you are interested in taking part in the lunch please email [email protected].
More information about the project: Alongside the traditional family dinner table, a meal is a place for discussion, debate and the sharing of ideas. FEAST looks to comment upon contemporary visual art and film works that explore our relationship with food as a social event, a marker of identity, a product of history and a commodity for trade. The publication will combine articles on contemporary arts practices with recipes, food histories and literary narratives in an eclectic mix that serves to explore, highlight and question the varied roles food holds within our everyday.
Food plays a key role in our experience of galleries, museums and art fairs - whether it be a dinner at an exhibition opening, or a coffee in a museum café - food and art are closely intertwined. For PULSE, the 2010 contemporary art fair in Miami organizers commissioned a rotating program of food trucks from some of Miami’s most known restaurants: the popular Latin Burger; gourmet food truck pioneer Gastropod and Yellow Submarine, purveyors of Colombian fast food. Each day a different truck was available to guests in the fair’s plaza.
FEAST looks to highlight the connection between art and food, exploring food as a marker of ritual, welcome and event.
FEAST is a publication project devised by Laura Mansfield and designed by Studio Dust.
