The Gates of Paradise
In Certain Places present a second opportunity to experience The Gates of Paradise, an audio artwork and performance by Collaborative Space, which was originally commissioned for the Preston Guild celebrations in September 2012. Join us in the Rotunda of the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, to be transported to Florence during an evening of performance, sound, food and wine.
The Gates of Paradise is an ongoing research project, which connects Preston with other locations around the world. The project centres on the Gates of Paradise, which are housed in the Harris Museum & Art Gallery and are cast copies of the original Gates, made for the Baptistery in Florence. Collaborative Space have reflected upon the relationship between Preston and Florence, transposing and navigating one space through another, exploring the dialogue of light, sound and sensation between the two locations. The audience will be encouraged to think differently about Preston: to reassess how they understand and negotiate their experiences in the city, and reflect on visiting another place.
Collaborative Space is a creative partnership led by Jeni McConnell and Hannah Elizabeth Allan. Since 2009 they have been facilitating a process of enquiry and experimentation to explore the history and function of spaces and objects, reflecting upon the impact these have on individuals engaged in remembrance and forgetting.
