Tŷ Hafan Commission Opportunity

Tŷ Hafan Commission Opportunity

Tŷ Hafan invites applications from artists/designers to develop a creative digital design solution to enable users, visitors, and funders to leave a lasting mark and show their support for Tŷ Hafan. The project budget is £12,000 and the commission is expected to run from January to November 2013.

Tŷ Hafan offers comfort, care and support to life-limited children and young people and their families, helping them make the most of the time they have left together. Visitors are welcomed to the Tŷ Hafan care facility by a ‘wall of hands’, on to which are printed the hands and names of children and young people who have received care and support from Tŷ Hafan. Together the handprints are a poignant reminder of how many children and young people have been affected by life-limiting conditions and benefited from the care and support offered by Tŷ Hafan. Individually, for bereaved families on return visits to the care facility, each one is a tactile reminder of their loved ones and serves a small but important therapeutic function. The wall also contains handprints of visitors and supporters of Tŷ Hafan, such as local councillors and celebrities.

Tŷ Hafan are keen to continue offering people the opportunity to make their mark on the wall of hands but space is limited and some of the handprints have deteriorated over time. We hope that the commissioned artist/designer will develop a creative solution to document the existing handprints for posterity and to offer a future-proofed way for people to continue to leave their mark that is not limited by the physical space available in the building.

Deadline for applications: 9:00am on 5th December 2012
Interviews: scheduled for 14th December 2012
