An Artist for Insch and surrounding villages

Deadline: May 18, 2012

An Artist for Insch and surrounding villages

Friends of Insch Hospital and Community (FOIH&C), with financial support from Aberdeenshire Council’s percent for art scheme, wishes to appoint an artist with experience in socially engaged practice who can take a creative approach to engaging their communities in consultation, draw out current opinions and aspirations around health and wellbeing, and reflect these through public art.

The project aims to creatively engage people living and working in the area in a debate around the health and wellbeing of their community, with a view to bringing together current opinion, ideas and aspirations.

FOIH&C has been leading such a debate around proposals for a new Health Hub at the current location of the Medical Centre and Hospital, but, given local and national priorities to develop a self help culture now being promoted in Scotland, it is important to have an open debate taking into account other local initiatives and activities which contribute to the health and wellbeing of the residents, and the significant changes that have and are taking place in the community as it grows.

The aim is to gather as many contributions of ideas as they can to help shape and support future development and provision. From information gathered in these settlements through activities devised and/or facilitated by the artist, the artist will work to present this in a creative and celebratory way. The artist will produce a piece of temporary art to be displayed, presented or performed at an event towards the end of the residency alongside an archive of work produced by individuals and groups throughout the project all of which contributes to the overall aim of a vision of health and wellbeing in the future.

Fee: £9,400. Short listed applicants will be invited to interview in Insch on the 6th June 2012 with a view to making an immediate appointment.
