West End Village Centre, Hampshire
Eastleigh Borough Council are looking to appoint a lead artist to create a new gateway feature for West End Village Centre. The work will form part of an on-going project to establish a trail that celebrates the heritage of West End, in particular the inspirational and interesting characters that lived there.
Aims of public art project:
- To create a piece to mark the entrance point to the village centre and provide interest for drivers, pedestrians, dog walkers and cyclists who use the routes;
- To produce a vision document that facilitates the introduction of further smaller artworks into the village;
- To update and improve access to the history of West End Village and emphasise the distinctive qualities of the area;
- To create opportunities for the local community to be involved in the design of their environment, increasing a sense of civic pride and community ownership;
- To contribute to the quality of life in the village through good design and high quality surroundings.
A budget of £15,000 + VAT is available for this commission. The budget is to cover all fees, consultation/community workshops, materials, fabrication, delivery, installation, consultant fees and expenses.
