Bingley Public Art Commission, Bradford
Deadline: April 6, 2009
Venue: Bingley Health Centre, Bingley Locality HUB, Kingsway, Bingley.
Timescale: March ‘09 – Jan’10
Artworks and Kala Sangam have been jointly commissioned by Bradford & Airedale care partners and tPCT to commission a number of permanent artworks within the new Bingley Health Centre at Bingley, Bradford. Innovative and exciting proposals are now being welcomed from artists working across a range of media.
The development of this project is split into two key stages, the first of which is almost complete. During Stage One creative writers have explored and developed ideas around the theme of ‘Active Bingley’ with community groups, patients and staff of the health centre. In Stage Two, the texts/materials gathered in this process will be handed over as source material for visual artists. It is intended that this will offer a starting point from which to create new artworks that reflect the voice of the community, which will be permanently installed within the health centre. The engagement process has been based on the theme of ‘Active Bingley’, and source material includes personal histories/stories in relation to Bingley, Bingley’s industrial and agricultural past, health and well-being, sports and lifestyle and the future of Bingley in the form of words, extended texts, poems and images. Given the nature/content of the project, artists are encouraged to consider designs that incorporate text in their proposal. This is not prescriptive however, and other ideas of how to reflect the source material are welcomed.
Artists and crafts people will be selected through an open competition. To apply, please complete the application form with an outline proposal, and send it along with a current CV and between 4-10 images of relevant work (j-peg images on disc or printed images) to: [email protected]
Or by post to: Artworks Creative Communities, 7th Floor, City House, 21 - 27 Cheapside, Bradford, BD1 4HR (Tel: 01274 256919; www.artworksbradford.org.uk
The application deadline is 6th of April. Short-listed artists will be invited for interview in Bradford in mid/late April ’09.
At this stage we are not expecting proposals to be fully worked up, but to present an initial response and give us an indication as to the location, materials, and special requirements that may need to be taken into consideration.
A site visit will be possible on request in mid-April.
