Call for Entries: Create Art Award 2014

Deadline: March 10, 2014

The Create Art Award is a major annual opportunity for London-based artists to deliver a project which actively involves communities in East London.  Proposals for a project for 2014 are now being accepted.

East London is the largest Cultural Quarter in Europe, with over 150 galleries and 13,000 artists based in the area; and yet it is also home to communities with some of the lowest levels of cultural engagement in the UK. The Create Art Award supported by Bank of America Merrill Lynch aims to bridge this gap, seeking to combat the continued disconnect between the area’s status as Europe’s creative capital and the local community.

Criteria

  • The award is open to any London based artist/artist collective, for a project to take place in East London.
  • Proposals are welcome from all art forms and across all media.
  • The project should involve the active participation of the local community both in terms of process and experience.
  • The project can be a piece of public artwork, an event, an experience or installation to rejuvenate the landscape and inspire the community
  • The project should be highly visible and reach as wide an audience as possible.

Application process

  • The deadline for proposals is Monday 10th March 2014
  • Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview w/c 24th March 2014
  • The selection panel will include representation from Create London, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Arts Council England
  • The total value of the commission is £40,000
  • The project must be completed before the end of 201

Applications should be no more than 5 pages in total, and can be made via email to: [email protected] including the following

  • Contact details
  • A 500 word description of the proposed project
  • A short description of which communities the project hopes to work with, and why
  • An outline timetable for the project
  • An outline budget for the project
  • An artist CV
