Call for artists: South Gloucestershire Cycle Paths
Deadline: December 13, 2009, 5:00 pm
South Gloucestershire Council is developing its network of cycle routes as part of the Cycle City Project. One of the routes links three secondary schools in Filton, Bradley Stoke and Patchway and, as part of its Smarter Choices programme, the Council is keen to engage students in creating artworks for the cycle path to encourage awareness, ownership and use.
The Council is seeking an artist to work with groups from the three secondary schools to develop designs which can be applied to the cycle path using road marking thermoplastic (which can be easily cut and is available in different colours.) The designs should articulate and enliven the cycle path near the schools and at key staging points.
The artist should have a strong visual arts background (preferably with experience of public art projects), have excellent skills in facilitating others and be a keen advocate of cycling and sustainable transport.
There is a budget of £7,500 to include all artist’s fees, production and installation of the designs. If you are interested in this commission, please send a letter explaining why you would like to be considered for this project and a brief outline of how you would approach it, a copy of your CV and not more than 6 images of your work to [email protected] by Sunday 13 December.
