Devonport Heritage Trail Announces Commission Opportunity

Deadline: August 28, 2009, 5:00 am

Devonport is one of the historical 'three towns' that collectively create Plymouth. Devonport has a strong identity – both physically (it's location on the Tamar Estuary leading into Plymouth Sound), and in the collective memory of its community.

Devonport Regeneration Community Partnership received a central Government urban regeneration grant, and in partnership with Plymouth City Council, they commissioned a Public Arts Strategy in 2008 as part of their overall vision for Devonport. The Arts Strategy underpins the vision for all public realm work in Devonport.

Artists, designers and creatives are invited to respond to a commission call for a Devonport Heritage Trail. The Brief is deliberately broad-church, aiming to receive both temporary and more “permanent” ideas. The Brief looks to move beyond the traditional Heritage Trail concept, and commission innovative, unique expressions.

The collective budget for the trail is £90,000, from which it is hoped several artists or designers will be commissioned.
