Galway County Council Arts Office: Call For Interest - Public Art Panel

Deadline: November 25, 2011

Galway County Council Arts Office: Call For Interest - Public Art Panel

Galway County Council’s Arts Office is in the initial stages of implementing a number of public art schemes within the county. As part of this process we are inviting artists to be included on a short term panel from which candidates will be shortlisted to develop proposals for individual commissions.

Selected proposals will be selected by an appointed committee, which can include independent curators, appropriate experts and local and community representatives, depending on the scheme.

The panel will operate for one year, beginning December 1st 2011 and ending November 30th 2012. Inclusion on the panel does not guarantee short listing or commissioning, nor does it exclude alternative commissioning avenues by Galway County Council.

Public Art commissioned by Galway County Council must add to the local cultural landscape and be in line with international contemporary art practice. Our public art programme will consist of four programme strands:

  • Site-integrated sculptures
  • Residency programmes
  • Once-off innovative project
  • Contextual Art (includes artists working in healthcare and education settings, as well as those involved in initiatives to facilitate creativity in older years in County Galway)

Artists wishing to be included in this panel should be aware of and adhere to Garda vetting and child protection procedures in their relevant field. This opportunity is open to all artistic disciplines and commissioned works and schemes may be permanent, temporary, participatory and ephemeral. Collaborative submissions are also welcome, either between artists or with appropriate specialists.

Interested artists should include the following:

  1. Artist CV
  2. Documentation of work: Website/Blog or up to 10 jpeg images; 1 mov file; 10 audio files on DVD/CD (by post
  3. Completed Application Form

Closing date for applications is November 25th 2011.
