Happy Valley Permanent Public Art Commission
Deadline: November 10, 2008
Craiglockhart Community Council, South Edinburgh wishes to commission a new permanent public artwork for the area known as Happy Valley. The commissioned artwork will need to celebrate the area and make a positive statement about the local community. The site for the chosen artwork will be at the end of a small row of shops which marks the area’s main commercial centre. The artwork must inspire and engage the local community as well as have visual impact and catch the eye of visitors to the area. The durability of the artwork will be a major consideration.
It is hoped that artists will approach the commission in an imaginative way so as to make links with and reflect some of the elements of Craiglockhart's diverse cultural history.
Up to five artists will be short listed from submissions and will be given £450 to develop their proposals for presentation to the Community Council. If you are interested in this commission please send a covering letter outlining your initial idea and approach along with a provisional budget, your CV including two referees and five images of previous work (hard copies please) to: Angela Tunstall, 264 Colinton Road, Edinburgh, EH14 1DN.
