High Street High Line - Camden Collective

Deadline: August 4, 2014, 10:00 am

Camden Collective are seeking proposals from artists and designers, who are invited to take over Camden's vacant rooftops and create a unique high line on top of high street south as part of the London Design Festival 2014. Proposals are being sort for temporary installations that emphasise the creative possibility of these vacant upper corridors and offer an alternative perspective to one of London’s busiest high streets.

The proposed design brief is to explore the possibility of installing a green high line, taking inspiration from New York's regeneration project, 'The High Line' – a 1 mile long linear park on an old elevated railway line. It is hoped to build on the success of LDF14 and install a large-scale public art project that transforms vacant space across Camden Town.

Specification:

  • Collective will manage and oversee the project including relationships with landlords and approving all works. All work will be subject to planning and risk assessment before final approval.
  • Roof space ranges from 300 sq. ft. to 1000 sq. ft. Installations could be specific size, or be adaptable to space available.
  • Collective are accepting project proposals for one rooftop, or an overall approach for several roofs.
  • Installations must be independent of any other structure and have their own foundations.
  • The public will not have access to the rooftops or work. The installations must be designed to be seen from street level only.
  • Collective’s pop up shop at 26 Camden High Street will be the focal point of the project. Exhibition space for work and that of the other artists involved in the project will also be available here, to communicate the collective vision.
  • Applicants must have their own public liability insurance.

Fee:

Total £15,000 with up to 5 projects (averaging £3000 each). This is inclusive of all production, artist fee, travel etc.
